You do not need to be actively considering suicide to contact 988. You can reach out for emotional distress, substance-use concerns, anxiety, depression, loneliness, or concern about someone you know.
Spanish-language support is available. People who are deaf or hard of hearing can find accessibility options through the 988 website.

You do not need to be a counselor to make a difference.

Listen without judgment.

Ask directly whether the person is thinking about suicide.

Do not promise to keep a suicide plan secret.
